The Living Today for Tomorrow STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) Garden in Ellis County is a unique program connecting K-12 students with senior citizens to create a hands-on learning experience. This garden will teach students vital STEM skills like water conservation, food production, sustainability, and life sciences while also fostering creativity, critical thinking, and respect for older generations.
By providing an outdoor space for learning, this project will give students—especially in rural and underserved areas—access to important STEM education that may not be available in their regular classrooms. Seniors will serve as mentors and teacher assistants, sharing their knowledge and experience. Together, students and seniors will learn, grow, and build a brighter future for our community!
The fundraising efforts to accomplish a project like this are daunting, but the folks at the STEM Garden have partnered with Boy Scouts of America, Ellis County Master Gardeners, Girl Scouts of America, Texas A&M AgriLife, Waxahachie Independent School District and the City of Waxahachie to get this innovative program going. We at Bluebonnet RC&D are proud of the small part we played in making this incredibly cool project happen!
